The BetterGov Journey

BetterGov began its journey in February 2016 when the co-founders, Matthew Ryan, and Marc Cohen, identified the challenges Local Government faced when implementing critical Social Care case management systems. The need for specialist business and technology support was clear, and understanding the impact that poorly implemented systems had on vulnerable citizens provided the drive for Matthew and Marc to create a better solution. Through the quality of delivery and value of outcomes, BetterGov swiftly became the preferred strategic delivery partner for delivering social care IT projects. Having successfully delivered over a dozen social care IT projects by then, in 2020 BetterGov implemented UK’s first single shared case management and finance system across three Councils.

Organic Growth

An expansion of services into implementing other complex systems such as Health, Education, Housing and Finance was natural for the team, and resulted in BetterGov working with its first NHS client in 2020. By now the BetterGov consultants were recognised for not only focusing our involvement on delivering outcomes, but also empowering teams by transferring knowledge and upskilling internal staff. With growth in the both the leadership and operational team, our capabilities further developed, and early in 2020 BetterGov successfully made its first footprint in the Central Government market, delivering a large-scale cloud migration project. Since then, BetterGov have created and improved digital products and services for central government clients, following Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and Technology Code of Practice.

Our Approach

The road to digital transformation, especially in the public sector is dotted with deep, expensive potholes many of which can be predicted, avoided, and even removed with advice and help from an experienced, trusted partner. This is where BetterGov come in.

Corporate Social Responsibility

The BetterGov team are privileged to be providing mentoring support to two organisations who focus on the development, social improvement and professional success of young people, both local and across the UK.

The Social Mobility Foundation (SMF) is a charity which aims to make a practical improvement in social mobility for young people through providing opportunities, and networks of support for 16-17 year olds who are unable to get them from their schools or families.

​The Kent Foundation is an essential part of the business community, supporting innovative young people to grow new enterprises, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the economic well-being of the County.

Hospice in the Weald

Hospice in the Weald is a charity based in Kent and East Sussex who provide care for adults and children living with a terminal or life-limiting illness, as well as providing support for their loved ones.

Being a cause close to the heart for a couple of our team members here at BetterGov, we know from first-hand the hard work, dedication and care the staff at Hospice of Weald put in to providing for the terminally ill and their loved ones.

Throughout the year BetterGov will be involved in various fundraising events and challenges to help support and raise as much money as we can for Hospice in the Weald
